HOW TO run IMAP GMAIL ? - "Unable to connect" - Logicmail v1.1.0 - BB Curve 8900 - OS 4.6.1.310 - No Dataplan BES/BIS - With Edge& Wifi

"Unable to connect to server" - please help

I use Version 1.1.0 (Logicmail) and set up following configuration:

Global Settings
I only changed WIFI MODE to Always (My intention is to run the LogicMail App only at Home with Wifi to save the internet data fees)

Accounts
Accountname: Eingang
Protocol: IMAP
Incoming server: (Empty)
Server: imap.google.com
SSL (checked)
Port: 993
Username: MYNAME@…
Password: MYPASS
Use MDS proxy (unchecked)

Outgoing server: Ausgang (smtp)

Outgoing servers
Account name: Ausgang
Server: smtp.google.com
SSL (checked)
Port: 465
Authentication: PLAIN
Username: MYNAME@…
Password: MYPASS
Use MDS proxy (unchecked)

Now when i go back in the App i can see the Header "LogicMail - Accounts" and below "Eingang (IMAP)".
When i click it now and choose select the Folders-Menu shows up with "No folders"

When doing "Refresh status" or "refresh folders" i end up with
Unable to connect to server

What can I do now ? How do I get it to run ?

My Specs:
BB Curve 8900 - LogicMail V.1.1.0 - BB OS 4.6.1.310 - No Dataplan BES/BIS - With Edge & Wifi

TCP/IP APN is activated and configured with my internet.eplus.de (Carrier is EPLUS but with Prepaid MEDION MOBILE)

---
Some other Infos that you might could help:
I downloaded Gmail-App wich is said to run only with mobile internet (APN/edge/) and it works for me! (with mobile internet only)

Thanks for your Help[[BR]] Kind regards

    Same problem with LogicMail 1.9.1

And with both version I try to connect with TCP/IP and Wifi .. not working at all.

    "Unable to open connection"

All other Apps with TCP/IP Connection are doing their job well..

I am really desperate because of this..

    Any suggestions ?

    • Message #344

I really have absolutely no idea what the problem is.

My first step would be to make sure your server/network settings actually are correct.

My second step would be to crank up the device's event logging (see the debugging page), then trying again, and then seeing if there are any interesting messages in the event log.

You should see a lot more information with 1.9.1.x, since it has much fancier "open a network connection" code.

When checked all over the settings "Direct TCP" with APN correctly installed (Gmail Works with that)

        • Message #360

The single IOException log line really tells me absolutely nothing at all. Well, at least it tells me nothing you aren't already told by the user-visible error message.

Two ideas... First, make sure that the "Connection debugging" config option is enabled. If the problem is during login (which I do doubt at this point), it'll show it. Second, make sure that the event log filters are configured to also show the "net.rim.tcp" and "net.rim.networkapi" (or just all) log items. These will give you a lot more debug feedback on what's actually happening when you try to open a connection. In fact, you can use them to see what other apps are doing as well. (sometimes its useful to know why they succeed)

And when posting new logging info, please trim out the MaildirFolder log messages. They're kinda useless to this issue.

            Hi Octo,
I did some new debugging and will post you the Log of LogicMail with Config "Wifi only" and then a log of the app Mobile Gmaps (similar to google maps but works with Wifi only, too)

Both configured to access the internet through Wifi.

So here we go (read from bottom to top each (i left out the date/times):

            LogicMail says:

            i LogicMail - Connection closed
            E LogicMail - java.io.IOExeption: Unable..

            d net.rim.networkapi - FcoC ssl://imap.google.com:993;interface=wifi
            i net.rim.networkapi - Fatt 6

            Mobile GMaps says:

            i net.rim.networkapi - FatF javax.microedition.io.ConnectionNotFoundException

            Now when ending the App
            ...
repeating this this a while but with "tcpsocket://tile.openstreetmap.org:80;interface=wifi"

            a net.rim.tcp - open tcpsocket://www.mgmaps.com:80;interface=wifi

            Any suggestions now ?

I now checked some more Debugging with different Configs in LogicMail and 8. Juli 2010
              and all of them
(EVEN if I do "Auto" on all Nertworking things and with configured "APN" to my provider)

              End up with the

              E net.rim.tcp - DNSx 7 - Error

This happens with Fatt 6 as well as Fatt 1 and Fatt 3
So i guess it has nothing to do with the Connection-Selection itself (wether to use wifi or tcp) but rather with something more general

              • Message #363

Okay, the problem is now obvious. You've entered the wrong server configuration.

According to Google's  configuration page, you should be using "imap.gmail.com" for incoming and "smtp.gmail.com" for outgoing.

The clue was the DNS error, which means you were trying to use a non-existent server name.
