Unable To Connect??

Hi,

I have a blackberry 9700 running v5.0.0.862 software.

I have recently upgraded my logicmail Beta from version 1.9 to the latest 2.0 that's available today!

However, I keep getting an Unable to Conncet message like with all LogicMail versions I've tried up to now :-(

When installed at first the system worked like a dream but now after a few hours it doesn't work at all??

This is the log message for the program:

I'm really not sure what to do as I really like the program and want to use it!

In addition I don't have BES or BIS active on my network, however I do have unlimited internet - so basic tcp/ip.... not sure if that affects things?

Can anyone help me?

Many thanks,

Kaya

I really have no idea what the problem is. All I can tell from that log, is that its trying (and failing) to connect over WiFi. You could try playing with the connection settings inside LogicMail to force it to connect another way, if you have a data plan. That's really my only suggestion.

This is exactly the same problem I am having (see my earlier post). The Ipods all connect every time, and the Blackberry works perfectly for a little while and then exactly the same thing happens. As soon as I try to access the Inbox, there is no delay at all and the 'Unable to Connect' error appears. The hotspot browser , which is also configured only to connect via wifi works perfectly, so the connection is open.

I'd really love it if someone could help! I don't have a data plan, and the Blackberry is being used on a Pay as You Go tariff so I would love WiFi to work.

      Many thanks

The funny part with my connection is that even if I have WiFi enabled and connected to my AP it still comes up with the same error??

I mean I have a data plan which is unlimitted even though it isn't BIS or BES, however it does work for a bit.

This is the same for other programs too which I've installed 3rd party which leads me to believe that this is in fact a Java error or an OS bug....

Either the Java code that was used isn't supported anymore, same thing happens using php between different versions; or alternatively the OS has something which is causing a blockage - although my comments are strictly speculation.

I would love to be able to use the LogicMail program and all the other programs requiring a tcp/ip connection to either cellular or 802.11 (WiFi) networks but currently the only thing that works is the browser. :-(

If I can help debug in anyway I will however, the current state of my Blackberry is standard cell phone as I only get SMS and voice calling at present :-( :-(

Oh BTW I have noticed that if I remove the battery for a while then insert it back the programs will work for a bit then stop after a few hours...???

These sorts of issues fall into the category of "most likely an OS bug, but I haven't the slightest idea how to actually solve it." Seriously, LogicMail isn't doing anything different than any other 3rd party app that needs a network connection, and it certainly isn't behaving differently depending on device uptime. (The code is all open-source, so feel free to look for yourself.)

Also, I should remind you that there are a variety of ways that a BlackBerry app can connect to the Internet. The browser does it in a different way from LogicMail (BIS-B vs Direct TCP), and while that doesn't help, it does explain things. Glad to see that kayasaman has noticed this issue in other apps.

Are there any Blackberry forums that I could get in touch with or any place that Blackberry developers might hang out that I could actually put this forward??

I currently have no mail, no SSH connectivity for my backend server farm (at work or home), no SIP connectivity to my VoIP server and the list goes downhill from there :-(

Using other phones such as Nokia with Symbian and even the buggy as hell Windows Mobile5 still gave me good connectivity for things.

I don't really know what to say any more apart from that I wish there was a way to help solve this issue!

            Thanks

I think I may have made some progress. Let's hope I'm not speaking too soon. Based on the evidence that this problem is more likely to be operating system based rather than LogicMail, I scoured the RIM download pages for the latest software. I am running an 8520 so not strictly the same problem as you, but there might be hope!

Up until yesterday I had been running the 5.0.0.900 package, but I found a later version on the site, under Vodafone UK as the vendor. The package is v5.0.0.1036 (Bundle 1682, Platform 5.2.0.104). I installed this using the loader.exe method, making a full backup as I went. Post installation, as usual, LogicMail worked fine.

But the new bit is, it's still working fine tonight, almost 24 hours later. This, hopefully, confirms that it is a software/os problem and that the latest refresh fixes it.

I hope the next 9700 update cures you too.

Checking the Blackberry download site, I see that O2 UK has newer software than yours, platform v5.0.0.979, apps 5.1.0.177

                You never know!!!!

                • Message #512

Thanks I'll give that a try as my software I think if not mistaken is RIM generic.....

Since I bought my phone in the UK but since I currently live in Turkey the cell provider is way different.

There was a version 6 as well however, I couldn't seem to download it as I think I needed to be a Blackberry Enterprise customer or so since it required a username and password combo.

                  We'll see what happens.....

Well I'm in OS5 and AT&T and have never been able to connect with the data plan only. Only WIFI works which makes this app less than fantastic.

Oops this is meant as a reply to the message by octo 04/12/11 21:21:13

I am having the same problem, (BB Curve 9300 v5.0.0.977 Platform 6.3.0.63) on Virgin Mobile PAYG (which uses T-Mobile network) in UK. Logicmail 2.0.0.272 beta using imap to ntlworld.com

We do not have BIS, and are trying to get by with just Wifi, hence using LogicMail. Initially it worked perfectly, but then it would fail to connect "unable to open connection". Tried setting Logicmail to connect using wifi only, but still fails. Hotspot Web Browser works fine. After endless changes, and tests, including debug mode, I finally came across a comment that the app is not designed to run in background for a long time, and that maybe a Battery Pull would help.  http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_name=4D415369.1010404%40logicprobe.org&forum_name=logicmail-users

This has worked ! At last, we can connect again to the mail server. I didn't expect to have to perform such a hard reboot to get this app working again, but at least now I know.

I also noticed in the pop-up menu there are options for 'close' and 'exit'. Is there any difference between them and would it help to resolve the problem?
